We need people to volunteer, to learn how to identify new sites and record the changes happening to our coastal heritage.
The coastline is constantly changing and therefore the ambition of the ‘Arfordir’ project is that it will continue into the future through your continued involvement and support.

‘Arfordir’ is looking for volunteers!
The people who know the coast best are the ones who are there most often, local residents and regular visitors will be better able to spot changes than someone who may visit only once every year or two. Volunteers will work alongside professional archaeologists who will act as ‘mentors’, providing training, advice and assistance.

The project is being organised by Dyfed Archaeological Trust and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, and receives funding from Cadw and the National Park Authority.

Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust and Gwynedd Archaeological Trust are running parallel projects for the south-east and north-west coasts of Wales.

Do you live near the coast, or visit regularly? Would you like to help us find out more about Wales’ coastal heritage, and do you have a few hours to spare now-and-then?

We need people to find out more about known archaeological sites and to identify newly discovered ones. We also need volunteers to do repeat visits, recording changes to the site’s condition.

The ‘Arfordir’ project will provide training, along with an information pack and some equipment which can be borrowed. For particularly important sites we may be able to help you do more, perhaps survey or excavation, or to produce a leaflet or hold an event. It’s up to you.

All this new information will help us to build up the big picture – what is our coastal heritage, and how is it changing?

If you want to get involved, or you belong to a group or society that wants to be part of the project, then contact us. We’re always happy to have a chat!
