Perched on a mountainside on the western fringe of the Brecon Beacons National park is a remarkable landscape of craggy cliffs, grassy humps and bumps and enigmatic ruins. For more than 200 years this beautiful place was a hive of industrial activity where limestone was quarried and processed to make lime.
CALCH is an exciting new project that will enable visitors to come and discover how this forgotten industry helped build Wales!
Funding for Phase 2 of the project is now in place and we will be working to discover, celebrate and repair the remains of the lime industry at Herbert's Quarry.
Please explore this website to discover more about
the project, the history of the lime industry and many other fascinating things about lime!
