Landscape Character Areas
The University of Birmingham identified twenty-seven submerged landscape
character areas, fourteen in the Bristol Channel and thirteen in Liverpool Bay. These character
areas are based on the individual landscape features and broad landscape areas identified
during data analysis. Each area has been assigned an approximate archaeological/historic
landscape potential value from low to high. These values in most cases should be regarded
as provisional and will require adjustment as more data becomes available. Although the
character areas are shown as having hard edges, the actual boundary between areas should
be regarding as broad a zone of change, which might be refined in the future.
