Milford Haven

Forty-eight historic character areas have been identified in the Milford Haven Waterway historic landscape. There is a great diversity across and within this landscape. The underlying landscape is agricultural, but this is of great variety, and ranges from the large, mixed economy farms with their large fields on the rich wind-swept land of the far west to the smaller dairy farms tucked away in the wooded creases of the upper Haven. Towns and villages are interspersed with and overlie the agricultural landscape. Again there is great variety of settlement type. The old established towns of Pembroke and Haverfordwest with their castles and ancient churches jostle for supremacy with the more recent industrial foundations of Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock and Neyland. Scattered between the fields, farms and towns are forests and woods, parks and gardens, quays and harbours.
