Evidence for monastic sites in southwest Wales was reviewed with the aim of assessing whether the areas of scheduled ancient monuments includes the whole of the known archaeology, and also whether currently unscheduled sites are worthy of being recommended for designation as scheduled ancient monuments. As well as reviewing the evidence for major monastic sites, such as Whitland Abbey, Talley and Strata Florida, all of which are scheduled ancient monuments, smaller religious sites such as hospitals, nunneries and hermitages were included in the project.
