Drefach/Velindre

Two main themes run through the Drefach/Velindre landscape: agriculture and the woollen industry. The agricultural landscape is typical of mid and north Carmarthenshire and is characterised by dispersed farms with mainly 19th century stone buildings, fields of improved pasture, hedges on high earth banks and deciduous woodland on steep slopes. The old industrial settlements are confined to the narrow valley floors of fast north-flowing streams or on the flatter, more open ground of the Teifi Valley. Stone-built 19th century terrace housing interspersed with 19th and 20th century stone – brick and metal-built woollen mill buildings are characteristic of these settlements.
